This policy explains what Unfold ("we", "us") collects when you use the app, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and how you can remove it.
Unfold requires an account, and everything we store is tied to that account:
We do not collect payment details, contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers.
Ask, exegesis ("Unfold" notes on a verse), plan devotionals, and Ignatian contemplation scripts are generated by an artificial-intelligence model. To produce them we send the relevant Scripture reference and passage text, and — in Ask — the questions and messages you type, to Lovable's AI Gateway, which routes the request to an OpenAI model provider.
Please treat these features as you would any third-party AI service: do not enter sensitive personal information, confessional details you would not want processed externally, or another person's private information in Ask. Generated exegesis, devotional and contemplation text is cached in our database so it can be re-shown quickly to you and to other users viewing the same passage; that cached text is not linked to your account. Your Ask conversations and messages are stored against your account so you can revisit your history.
These providers process data only to deliver their part of the service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Unfold does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Your browser's local storage holds your sign-in session token, cached Bible chapters (so reading is fast and works with a poor connection), your reading font size, and your Flip mode position. Clearing your browser storage signs you out and clears those caches; it does not delete anything stored in your account.
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. That action permanently removes your authentication record, and the database cascades that deletion to everything keyed to your user: your profile (display name, email, streaks, last read date, preferred translation), highlights, notes, bookmarks, journal entries, chapters-read records, reading sessions, reading plans you started and their per-day progress, and your Ask conversations along with all messages in them.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Anonymous cached AI content for a passage (devotionals, contemplation scripts, exegesis) is not tied to your account and remains available to other readers. Backups held by our hosting provider may retain deleted rows for a short period before they roll off.
You can access and correct most of your data directly in the app, and delete all of it from Settings. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. Email us at the address below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Unfold is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with row-level access rules so that your content is readable only by your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit what each provider can see.
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we will notify you in the app.
